How To Make Your Own Website: Finding a Web Host

In the last post, you learned how important your choice of domain name is for your website success. Now, Step Two in how to make your own website is to find a web host.

Think of your domain name as an address plaque which you can move from web host to web host. The essential things to look for in a web host are

  • quality web hosting
  • reliable web hosting
  • cheap

Notice I didn’t say “free hosting”.

Finding quality, reliable hosting cheap is a tall order. The ranks of web hosts are filled with people who think web hosting is a way to “get rich quick”. In the beginning, it can appear like being a quality web host is easy. The equipment is new, the loads on the servers is light and in the beginning, the initial hosting clients are very tech savvy.

Then, comes the rush. Suddenly, your web host has to hire more staff. The server loads increase and suddenly, customer service and maintenance begin to rear their ugly heads.

Since your web host is the equivalent of your brick and mortar store’s physical building, your choice of web host is probably the most important decision you’ll make when it comes to your website. Your websites success literally depends upon your choice of web hosting company.

With that said, there are only TWO web hosts I can recommend from personal experience.

Last year, I burned through literally dozens of hosting companies and not one of them could provide anywhere near the service of the two hosts above.

Web hosting is all about reliability. Since no computer is perfect, the next thing to look for in a web host is the ability to connect with customer service quickly and efficiently. You don’t need to get a busy signal or a voice mail when your site is down.

The two web hosts above have provided quality service for me for the past 2 years and counting.
